I'm not sure if you are looking for a value of the book. In case you are, the best way would be to actually see the book. It is a book that has come and gone from the store several times and one that I really like. I like the cover. Generally the book could go from $10 up depending upon the condition. If you are in the area stop in! Thanks for thinking of my store.

I inherited a collection of books, mainly music books and music history etc. I would like to sell the collection as a single lot and I am wondering if you are interested. Up to this point I have cataloged about a third of them so it will number about 150-175 (maybe more because I haven’t finished going through all the boxes). I can send you a spreadsheet of the books I have cataloged up to this point. I also would deliver to your store if you are interested.
Thanks.

Haven't been to Vermont in 40 years, might never go back (I was a little boy, and I'm born and bred Californian) but I've worked in 4 bookstores and managed 3 of them, and you get all kinds. I too have had the person come into the store, and tell me that they saw the book online cheaper, but they wanted to buy it from me instead. Typically there's either some mention of the fact that they can get it now, as opposed to having to wait for Amazon or whoever to ship it to them, or there's some pablum about how they wish to support local businesses--by buying the book from their local store at or below cost. It's usually frustrating. Last time it happened to me, it was a young woman, and instead of laughing at me she simply wouldn't understand that I wasn't going to meet the price she saw online. She tried explaining the situation to me several times, and finally left, frustrated.

Sadly, bookstores here in the city are going the way of the dodo...

It does seem that autumn just sprang on us. I do admit I'm happy with the change of season though it is hard for me to actually write that because I am a warm weather person. Love the heat even the suppressive humid days. That's when I like to walk Spirit in Nature (SpIN) and put my feet in the cold water of the Middlebury River that runs along one of the walks. But then as you wrote how fall brings you in to warmth that stirs in me the warmth of our woodstove while a pot of stew or soup is bubbling on top and curling up in my comfy chair with a good [used] book. We are lucky to live where we have such choices!

I enjoy customers coming in and milling about poking into corners and the big and little rooms, and through boxes, priced and unpriced. To me that is what a used bookstore is all about. I also enjoy conversations I have with many of my customers who quickly become friends. Used books stores should be happy places and I hope that is evident in this humble store.

Thank you for your comments! I sure hope we see lots of each other. And next time Costello soup on me!

I can't believe autumn has finally come. It seems like we've had such a long summer. It is wonderful to see the change in the leaves. And as always, fall sends me in to warmth, and friends, and the lovely smell of well used books. It's been so nice spending the last few weeks exploring the stacks of books in your store, both vertical and horizontal. You have been sweet to let me search through your recent editions before they've been priced! Now all I have to do is find space on my own bookshelves. You may be receiving a few towering stack of my own, as I say goodbye to old friends that I no longer need. And around we go, as I need to fulfill that store credit.! Sarah has been loving her new classics at school. It was fun for her to bring a box of new friends with her. Good luck to you in the coming fall days. I'm sure we'll be seeing lots of each other.

Thanks for your comments. You are so right about the 100 vs. 1. That was so evident that day but for some reason it was that one person who just stood out. Fortunately a rare one. Generally the used bookstore world is a great one for me with fabulous customers. And you know, I remember that book being in here. I was going to build a window display around it but didn't have enough banned books to go with it. I remember thinking at the time was it because those books sell...? Again, thank you for your comments. You don't know how much I appreciate them!

I hope that for every bore that comes in the store that you find 100 grateful customers; like me. That should be the "upside" of owning a small book shop. Some time back I bought Bookbanning in America by William Noble (signed) for $16 from you. It's available online for $18.95 plus shipping. But, who knows what it looks like until it arrives? The book on your shelf was available to preview and discern its value on the spot. And, the other books I found and bought that visit were also treasures of their own. Forget the bores. We are the real customers.
